The addition of basil and garlic, along with a pinch of Nonna Nunzi’s dried herb mixture, makes this a sauce that will happily adorn everything from pasta to pizzas.
Nonna Nunzi’s green olive tapenade is homage to the Bello family ancestors in Sicily. The piquant spread of green olives, garlic and a hint of chili peppers adds spark to any meal or dinner table, just like the Bellos!

An Italian immigrant named Toni Lovi created the first Muffaletta sandwich in New Orleans at the turn of the century. The sandwich was stacked with Italian salami, ham, provolone cheese, on freshly baked bread, with a very special ingredient—a secret olive spread. While no one knows the original recipe for this spread, Nonna Nunzi’s version is a savory combination of green and black olives, garlic, roasted red peppers and extra virgin olive oil. Enjoy it as a spread or as a delicious seasoning for roasted fish.
